Feeling Disconnected? Here’s How to Reconnect

Disconnection is often a trauma response. When your nervous system is stuck in survival mode, your body may dissociate to protect you. Your inner child might be shielding you from past pain. And while mindset work can help, true healing requires the body too.

I know this feeling all too well. For years, I operated from a place of survival, detached from my body, living for others’ expectations, and letting external forces shape my choices. But when I began to heal and reconnect, I found my inner wisdom again. I could ask myself the questions that mattered—and finally trust the answers that arose from within.

If you’re feeling lost, frozen, or overwhelmed, you are not broken. You are being invited home to yourself.

Here Are 5 Tools to Begin Your Reconnection Journey:

1. Somatic Healing

Your body stores what your mind forgets. Reconnection begins here:

  • Breathwork to soothe your nervous system
  • Intuitive movement like stretching, shaking, or dancing
  • Grounding exercises such as walking barefoot on the earth

2. Mindfulness & Meditation

Stillness helps you hear your truth again

  • Try heart-based or body scan guided meditations
  • Practise mindfulness during simple acts—cooking, walking, bathing

3. Shadow Work

Reconnect with the parts of you you’ve hidden:

  • Journal: “What am I afraid to feel right now?”
  • Write from your younger self’s voice
  • Practise radical self-compassion in moments of discomfort

4. Creative Expression

When you can’t say it, express it:

  • Journal under the moonlight
  • Paint or draw your emotions
  • Write a letter to the version of you that feels lost

5. Energy Clearing

Some of what you carry isn’t yours:

  • Try salt baths, smudging, or energy healing like Reiki
  • Use this mantra: “I release what’s not mine. I call my power back.”

Reflection to Begin Today:

  • What part of me have I been ignoring?
  • Where in my life am I settling?
  • What version of me am I becoming?
